Public Safety and Government, and all areas of the Australian economy, are operating in an environment of rapid and complex change. Technological transformation and potential impacts on jobs and workforce design, climate impacts and natural disasters, geopolitical uncertainty, and shifting community expectations are driving more complex capability requirements, placing growing pressure on the VET Workforce to deliver timely, relevant and high-quality training. This is an opportune time to reflect on the social, cultural, and behavioural aspects that can enable lifelong learning, and for building thriving, adaptive learning cultures in complex times. Public Skills Australia will present research findings and insights, drawn from in-field, nationwide qualitative discussions and focus groups with: Correctional Services, Department of Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Government, and Police industry-sectors.
In this session, we will explore:
- How industries and organisations can strengthen how they identify capability gaps, and plan, design, deliver and evaluate learning interventions in more proactive, holistic and strategic ways.
- Strengthening facilitation craft and group work skills, drawing on a range of learning pedagogies - exploring foundational principles in active listening, holding and navigating paradox in discussion, and engaging communication to enable improved mutual understanding, innovation, problem solving, and collaboration.
- The vital role of coaching and mentoring structures to support learning outcomes, shape workforces with current and emerging skills, and in building connected, prosperous and resilient communities.
