Australia’s clean energy transformation is accelerating, but one of the greatest risks to delivering renewable energy projects is not technology, it is workforce capability.
As investment grows across renewable generation, transmission, storage and emerging energy technologies, employers are facing increasing competition for skilled workers, changing occupational requirements and the need to build new capability at scale.
This interactive presentation will explore the workforce trends, skills priorities and apprenticeship innovations needed to deliver Australia’s energy transition. Drawing on insights from PSO’s emerging 2026–2027 Workforce Plan and upcoming Apprenticeship Policy Paper, participants will discuss practical workforce challenges, share successful approaches and help identify solutions that support a skilled, inclusive and future-ready energy workforce.
Using a real-world case study from Desert Knowledge Australia, the workshop will examine how industry, governments, training providers and communities can work together to attract, train and retain workers in regional and remote locations where many of Australia’s future energy projects will be delivered.
