Australia is taking part in the second cycle of the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), known locally as the Australian Study of Adult Skills. The study will provide updated, internationally comparable data on adult literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills, helping to inform education, training and workforce policy.

Coinciding with Jobs & Skills Month, Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) will commence a PIAAC field trial on 23 October 2026. The trial will test and refine survey methods and operational processes ahead of nationwide data collection in 2028.

Delivered in partnership with Ipsos Public Affairs, the field trial will survey a minimum of 600 randomly selected people aged 15 to 74 across Victoria and South Australia, providing valuable insights to support the successful implementation of the national study.
